SCOTTIE SMITH

1952-11-05 2020-11-04
We rejoice that our beloved wife, mother, sister, and aunt, Scottie Asbury Smith, was called home by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 4, 2020, at the age of 67 but forever 39. Scottie Asbury Smith was born on November 5, 1952, in San Antonio, TX to Edgar Allen Asbury, Jr., and Idabell Rogers Asbury. She is a descendant of Jesse Chisholm of the famous Chisholm Trail and a proud tribal member of the Chickasaw Nation. The family relocated to Dallas, TX in 1953.

Her partner in crime was her younger sister, Cindi Asbury Sanchez. When their parents were out, license, or no license, they would “borrow” their mom’s car. Also, they’re “knockdown drag outs” were epic. They liked shopping, playing games, and just enjoyed being together. Their war stories included the “joys” of raising kids and husbands.

She attended F.P. Calliet Elementary School, E.H. Cary Junior High School, and Thomas Jefferson High School all in Dallas. She was a cheerleader at E.H. Cary Junior High and on the drill team at her beloved TJ. She was very active in the high school choir participating in school musicals. She was part of the 1971 graduating class, where she served as the class secretary. She also attended North Texas State University where she made a lifelong friend Dianne Berg. She then pursued her passion for interior design at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio.

She married Keith Smith on April 4, 1987, in San Antonio, TX. They resided there until 1994 when they relocated to Plano, TX.

She remained very close to her high school classmates over the years. She mostly enjoyed her girl’s trips with her high school friends known as the Junk Gypsies: Cathy Freeman, Shannon McKinley, Patti Hill, Debbie Jarma, Stef Cobb, and Laura Buchanan. One of the highlights of her year would be their yearly girl’s trip which started in 1985. Her favorite trip was to Palm Springs, CA. She also cherished the times everyone would gather around the piano to sing and share laughter.

She was a devoted soccer mom to Jordan and Andy from 4 years old to college. Her favorite place to be was on the sideline cheering on both kids whether they were on the field or Jordan coaching at Plano Senior High School.

Scottie was very creative, artistic, and loved musical theater. Her love for the arts and music led her to be one of the biggest Barbara Streisand fans. She loved live entertainment, TV, movies and she never missed an episode of Gilmore Girls.

She is preceded in death by her parents Edgar Allen Asbury Jr., Idabell Rogers Asbury, and Jessie Sue Rogers (grandmother). She is survived by husband Keith Smith, daughter Jordan Smith, son Andy Smith (Plano, Texas), sister Cindi Asbury Sanchez, brother-in-law Sonny E. A. Sanchez (Edmond, OK), niece Erin Sanchez and nephew Sonny Sanchez (Oklahoma City, OK).
