PHILLIP B. "STEVE" STEPHENS

1952-10-19 2014-03-09
Stephens, Philip B "Steve" Stephens, Philip B. (Steve to all) October 19th 1952- March 9th 2014. The son of Joe and Marjorie Stephens, Steve is survived by four sisters; Erika, Stansel, Marjorie, Leonora, and four brothers John, Rufus, George and Benjamin; nieces and nephews too numerous to count. He graduated from the University of North Texas in 1976. Steve led an eclectic life, full of many passions. Politics were of a particular concern to him. He believed in a more just and equal society for all of us. He delighted in movies, books and music of all types. He loved sci-fi, mystery, and horror but also lighter subjects. Print, on screen, with clubs and at conventions were places he could express it along with us. Baseball and the Texas Rangers were also highlights of his day. A saint in the Church of the Sub-Genius, juggling, magic, coin collecting combined to fit into this mélange of Steve. His main passion though was for his siblings and their children. He was always willing to entertain children, to babysit and interact with them as though they were his equals. He would share his interests and participate in their own. He showed pride in them as if their accomplishments were part of a greater collective good that he had helped bring about in some small way. He will always be cherished. A memorial service celebrating Steve's life will be held on Monday, April 28th at 3pm at the First Unitarian Church of Dallas located at 4015 Normandy Ave, Dallas 75202. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations made in his memory be made to KERA 90.1 FM, the public radio station in Dallas.
